GASTONIA, N.C. -- Gastonia Police arrested a man after being accused of barging into a grandmother's house, tying her up at gunpoint and then robbing her on Friday afternoon.
The victim, Jackie Badger, told NBC Charlotte she had her front door open that afternoon when William Ledbetter knocked on her door.
She said he asked to borrow her cell phone because his car broke down. "I knew it was probably bad, but I did it anyway," Badger said.
After giving him her phone, she said he eventually asked her to fill up his water bottle.
She recalled going into the kitchen before he came in through the front door.
"He was standing at the door, and he pulled out a gun and zip ties," she said. "He told me to get on the floor." She said he tied her up, took her car keys and went to her car out front to try to start it up.
Badger said she escaped the house, hiding behind bushes in her backyard before running for help at a nearby bar.
Ledbetter was arrested shortly thereafter and charged with breaking and entering, robbery with a dangerous weapon and kidnapping.
As of Monday afternoon, he remained in jail under a $90,000 bond.
