100+ mph car chase ends with crash in Gaston County

Seven people were taken into police custody after two separate police chases in Charlotte.

GASTONIA, N.C. -- Two people have been detained after a car crashed into a house following a chase that started in Charlotte and ended in Gaston County Thursday night.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, just after 9:00 p.m., officers in west Charlotte located a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle involved in an armed robbery. 

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the vehicle containing two people refused to stop and fled.

CMPD chased the car down I-85 out of Charlotte into Gaston County. The driver struck a house located in the 100 block of Robin Road in Gastonia. 

Both the driver and passenger were detained following the incident, and one of the suspects was transported to a hospital for minor injuries.

North Carolina Highway Patrol and Gaston County Sheriff's Office assisted CMPD in the pursuit and the arrest at the scene of the crash.

Officers are still on the scene investigating.

In a separate incident, five people were taken into police custody after a chase in east Charlotte. That pursuit ended after the suspect vehicle stopped after being spotted by police in Plaza Midwood Thursday night.
