Over 1,000 without power in Gastonia after crash, officials say

Over 1,000 people are without power after a car accident in Gastonia Monday night.

GASTONIA, N.C. – Over 1,000 people in Gastonia are without power after a car accident damaged equipment Monday evening.

According to the Union Road Volunteer Fire Department, the accident happened at the intersection of Union Road (Highway 274) and Beaty Road. The accident happened a little after 9:30, and as a result, officials don’t expect the road to re-open until Tuesday.

Duke Energy expects power outages to last until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

No further details were provided by authorities.
