Harrisburg Fire rescues severely injured man from train tracks

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. -- The Harrisburg Fire Department completed a rescue operation Wednesday afternoon for what they say is a seriously injured man on the train tracks.

A 25-year-old man who was laying down new sections of railway became trapped under a piece of heavy equipment. His co-workers were able to free him before emergency crews arrived.

The fire department says they set up a rope system to rescue the man, who suffered severe injuries, from Speedrail Court, because a ravine made it difficult to get to him.

They called it a "technical rescue" and have enacted the use of their ladder on top of the fire truck to assist in the operation.

The man was removed with a ladder and ropes and transported to the hospital.

Concord Fire Department was on scene to assist.
