Hickory man confesses to murder, authorities say

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. -- Police have arrested a 19-year-old after he confessed to murdering a male victim Wednesday.

Burke County police responded and located a deceased male that had been shot in the chest in the bedroom of a Hickory home Wednesday afternoon. Caleb Joseph Van Arsdale was named a suspect after discovering he lived in the home where the deceased male was found, officials say.

According to officials, Van Arsdale was arrested Wednesday evening after he turned himself in and confessed to shooting a man in the chest and leaving the scene in the victim's vehicle. Police arrested him for the murder of Jacob Andrew Lucas.

Van Arsdale has been taken to Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility where he is being held with no bond. His first appearance in court is scheduled for Friday.
