Downed tree leaves hundreds without power in Myers Park

Several power lines were knocked down by a tree early Wednesday in Myers Park.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Nearly 500 people in Myers Park woke up without power after a tree fell on power lines along Selwyn Avenue early Wednesday.

Crews on the scene said a tree fell on the lines near the intersection with Queens Road West and forced officials to close Selwyn Avenue for cleanup.

Officials with Duke Energy have been called to the scene to locate all nearby utilities as part of their evaluation. After the downed power lines are declared safe, a tree removal company will be called to remove the debris.

Crews on the scene haven’t provided an estimated time for restoration of power or for the road to be reopened. By 8:30 a.m., crews had restored power to a little over 100 of those affected.
