Lanesboro Correctional Institute inmate dead from apparent suicide

POLKTON, N.C. -- An inmate at Lanesboro Correctional Institution died Sunday from apparent suicide, officials say.

Inmate Christopher Blackett was found unresponsive in his cell Sunday afternoon. Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead.

Blackett, 25, was serving more than 26 years in prison after convictions for second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. He was convicted for the 2011 death of his 17-year-old neighbor, Vincent Carlisle II or Spring Lake.

Blackett was a Fort Bragg soldier from California who was convicted in August 2016. His inmate number was #1515843.

The Polkton Police Department says they are investigating Blackett's death.
