Lowe's to begin making staffing changes at corporate headquarters in Mooresville

Layoffs are underway at Lowe's headquarters in Mooresville.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Layoffs at Lowe's continued Tuesday with the latest round reaching into the company headquarters located in Mooresville.

The company said 430 people were being laid off from jobs at the headquarters.

The company is also eliminating 70 support positions in Wilkesboro and approximately 25 corporate support positions in other facilities.

In a statement, Lowe's said, "These difficult decisions are necessary to successfully transform Lowe's as we adapt to the dramatic changes that are reshaping the retail landscape."

Just over a month ago, the company cut 2,400 full-time positions in its stores as part of what was called a new "store staffing model."

Marketing experts believe Lowe's is trying to better compete with rival Home Depot.

The company is offering each laid-off employees severance pay, outplacement resources and other benefits.
