One dead after car hits tree in east Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C.. -- A 27-year-old is dead after being ejected from his car when it struck a tree, CMPD says.

Detectives say their initial investigation shows the vehicle was traveling at a high speed when it struck a tree in the median. The driver, Juan Carlos Camposeco-Perez, wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the 2002 Ford Explorer.

Upon arrival, Medic pronounced Camposeco-Perez deceased.

The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. Sunday morning on the 4900 block of Central Avenue.

Investigators do not know if alcohol or drug impairment contributed to the crash at this time.
