Truck driver killed on I-85 checking on driver that rear-ended him

A truck driver got out of his car to check on a passenger vehicle that had rear-ended him when he was hit and killed by another tractor-trailer.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A pedestrian has been hit and killed in west Charlotte causing I-85 North to close Friday morning.

The incident occurred when a passenger car rear-ended the back of tractor-trailer.

According to police, the truck driver pulled onto the right side of the road, got out and began walking to check on the drivers in the passenger vehicle. He was walking on the interstate's right lane when he was hit and killed by another truck. 

Two people were taken to the hospital. One was the truck driver that hit the truck driver checking on the vehicle, the second was a person in the passenger vehicle. 

The incident happened Friday morning around 2:00 a.m. on the crossroads of I-85 and Little Rock Road.

I-85 North was closed near Exit 32 in Mecklenburg County, but was reopened around 5 a.m.
