Truck crashes into NW Charlotte home

A Charlotte family is homeless after a truck slammed into their house.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- First responders were at the scene of an accident after a truck crashed into a northwest Charlotte home.

The crash took place in the 700 block of Key Street. Police at the scene told NBC Charlotte that officers initially conducted a traffic stop on the truck involved in the accident. As officers tried to pull over the truck, the driver decided to run.

As officers pulled up to the truck in an effort to get the driver to stop, the truck took off again and hit the house. Police say the incident was not an active pursuit.

After the crash, the driver and passenger fled from the vehicle. Police are continuing to search for the driver.

No one was inside the home at the time of the crash. However, the owner of the home told NBC Charlotte she was lying in her bed, located just under the window the car crashed into before the incident. She decided to leave her home about two minutes prior to the car crash.
