Pilot killed after plane crash in Apex airfield, reports say

Officials say the weather at Raleigh-Durham International Airport was clear at the time. However, winds gusted up to 18 miles per hour.

APEX, N.C. -- A pilot operating a small plane died following a crash near Apex Wednesday afternoon, reports WRAL.

According to reports, the plane is registered to Bruce C. Jordan, of Cary. It is not clear whether Jordan was piloting the plane at the time of the crash.

N.C. Highway Patrol told WRAL that the pilot was coming in for a landing when he clipped a tree and the plane plowed into the ground of Cox Airfield off U.S. Highway 64, north of Apex.
