CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- “She was really open and friendly, accepting,” Jeremiah Parrish said.
Those who knew 26-year-old Katie Jones tell the same story. They describe a loving young woman who was outgoing and admired by the people around her.
Jones' murder is sending shockwaves throughout the Plaza Midwood neighborhood.
“It's just like a lot of repulsive stuff is happening right now. It's all terrible,” said Plaza Midwood resident Greg Vose.
Jones was shot and killed as she walked home from a bar early Sunday morning.
“It's just some things either are personal to a person or personal to an area. We're just hoping it's not personable to an area,” PM newcomer Mike Vaniska explained.
Later Sunday evening there was an armed robbery reported a little ways down the road near Sheffield Park. The police report states the victim was hit with a blunt object and robbed of his cellphone and wallet.
He was taken to the hospital and suffered minor injuries.
These crimes are not in any way believed to be connected.
Still, it's a lot for this lively community to digest.
“To see all this happen in the last month it's genuinely heartbreaking,” Shelby Holland said.
Friends of Katie Jones are holding a benefit concert for her Tuesday night at 9:30 at Snug Harbor.
If you have information about this shooting or armed robbery call CMPD immediately.
