School bus fire prompts evacuation

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A school bus caught fire Tuesday morning in Northwest Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said. 
 
The six children and driver aboard were able to evacuate safely. 
 
The incident occurred on Winding Canyon Drive, off Mt. Holly Road, Tuesday morning. The school bus was on its way to Marie G. Davis Middle School.
 
The bus was number 607. The fire has been put out and a replacement bus will pick up the children and driver.
 
Officials have not released a cause of fire.
