Officers have found a firearm at the apartment in Matthews where two
teenagers were found dead Friday night, but haven't said whether the gun
was used in the killings.
According to police, officers found the bodies of a 19-year-old female
and a 17-year-old male Friday after responding to a 911 call about shots
fired in the Matthews Village apartment complex.
"There are two possible scenarios," said Sgt. Darren Snyder of the
Matthews Police Department. "It may be a murder-suicide or a double
homicide."
The two teens knew each other, officers said. Neighbors said they may
have dated at one time.
Less than a year ago, police were called to the same complex to
investigate the death of a 3-year-old, who police later said was
suffocated by his mother's boyfriend. The two death investigations are
isolated incidents, Snyder said.
"There is not reason neighbors should worry," he said.
But for Woody Forest, who lives next door to the complex and jogs
through the area every weekend, the random crimes are happening too
often.
"Everyone has a gun and is willing to use it," he said. "It makes you
feel uneasy because everyone is locked and loaded."
