6NEWS Two students held in connection with a murder plot against their fellow classmates in teachers appeared in court Tuesday.
The case against two Charlotte teens who are accused of a murder plot against their fellow students and teachers at a Christian school appeared in court Tuesday.
The purpose of Tuesday’s hearing is to set a trial date and request that the media stay out.
The judge agreed with lawyers on both sides of this case and closed the courtroom to the public - including the media.
That decision came before the two teens appeared for their arraignment. But we're told at least one of the 15-year old boys plead not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit murder.
The boys attended Bible Baptist Christian School near Matthews and the alleged plot unfolded last month. 6NEWS spoke with one of the boy's defense attorney's, he said he can't talk about the case, but admits he's pleased with two if the decisions.
The first; to keep the media out of the courtroom, fearing the identity of the teens might be released and that public scrutiny would impact their treatment. The second victory came when the decision came to keep this case in juvenile court. He said that better protects his client from any outcome.
"Any conviction there may be in the future will be sealed and that will allow him to go about his life when he becomes an adult like go to college and have a good job,” attorney Christian Hoel said.
The trial for one if the student’s is set for February 7. In the meantime a detention hearing will be held every 10 days. His family hopes to convince the judge to release the teen in time for the holidays.
