SC man accused of killing his cousin

08:40 AM EST on Friday, January 2, 2009

LANCASTER, S.C. -- Authorities say a 22-year-old Lancaster man killed his cousin on New Year's Day.

Police have charged James Curry Jr. with murder, gun possession and discharging a firearm in the city. Lancaster County Deputy Coroner Karla Knight said Curry's cousin, 20-year-old Devion Collins, died at an apartment early Thursday of gunshot wounds.

The Herald of Rock Hill reported Friday that officers found Collins on the kitchen floor. A family member had attempted CPR. Curry was upstairs.

Police Capt. Harlean Howard says the two were arguing, but a motive is not yet known.

Curry remained in the Lancaster County jail on Friday. His bond has been denied. It was unclear if he had an attorney. Collins' family has declined to comment.
