GASTONIA, N.C. -- A $2 lottery ticket bought at a Gastonia convenience store won $1 million in Wednesday night's Powerball lottery, officials said Friday. The winner has not yet claimed the prize.

The ticket was sold at One Stop Grocery, 510 E. Franklin Blvd. The buyer got a $1 Powerball ticket and paid an extra dollar for the "Power Play" option, which means any winnings are multiplied by a factor determined at the drawing. The ticket matched the five white balls pulled Wednesday to win $200,000, said Pam Walker of the N.C. Education Lottery. The Power Play multiplier of five -- the highest possible -- bumped that up to a million.

State and federal taxes generally take about 32 percent, Walker said.

Since the N.C. lottery began in March 2006, about 40 people have been million-dollar winners. The biggest win was $74.5 million, by a Halifax woman.
