Charlotte-bound plane returns to Milwaukee airport
01:52 PM EST on Friday, January 2, 2009
MILWAUKEE -- An official with Air Wisconsin Airlines Corp. says a flight bound for North Carolina returned safely to the Milwaukee airport minutes after takeoff after an indicator light suggested a possible problem.
Airline spokeswoman Annette Daly says the flight left Milwaukee for Charlotte, N.C., on Friday morning. She says a warning light went off about 10 seconds after takeoff indicating a possible issue with the landing gear.
Mitchell International Airport spokesman Ryan McAdams says the flight landed back safely about 8:30 a.m. He says the airport was on heightened alert, with crash and rescue vehicles on hand as a precaution.
Daly says the plane taxied to the gate under its own power.
Air Wisconsin is a regional carrier that was operating the flight for US Airways Express.
