CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The special committee formed by the Mecklenburg County Commission to study crime has renamed the position known as the "crime czar."

It is now the Senior Manager for State Justice Services.

The county manager has recommended Michelle Lancaster for the position of Justice Accountability Director and she will be responsible for hiring an assistant who will be known as the Senior Manager for State Justice Services. Lancaster currently works in the county manager's office and she helped oversee the Justice and Safety Task Force.

The County Commission wants to spend $1.4 million on additional staff for the district attorney's office and $225,000 on more electronic monitoring bracelets. They have recommended spending $2.3 million of the $3 million right now. These recommendations are expected to go before commission tonight for a vote.
