HICKORY, N.C. -- Authorities have uncovered more than $2 million worth of items belonging to J.V. Huffman, Jr.
He’s the Catawba County man accused of bilking hundreds of people out of $25 million through his company Biltmore Financial Group.
Those items are expected to be sold.
It means some of Huffman’s alleged Ponzi scheme victims might get some of their money back. A few weeks ago investigators said that probably wasn’t going to happen.
A Carolina Panthers suite for $90,000 is one of several expensive items court records show Huffman bought and is subject to sale.
Other items:
-14 homes, either owned, leased or in a time share.
-Nine automobiles including an Aston Martin.
-A 35-feet boat insured for $189,000.
-A motor home insured for $82,000.
-Construction equipment worth $60,000.
-$140,000 worth of life insurance policies.
-$100,000 cash currently being held by the Secretary of State’s Office.
-$165,000 in loans to two people.
-A $750,000 art collection.
-$110,000in jewelry.
"We lost all of our savings,” said Bishop L. Jackson, who invested his retirement with Huffman and his company, Biltmore Financial Group.
Jackson and fellow investor Bob Hefner say his stuff comes from their money.
"It would tick most anybody off. If he'd been doing it legally it would have been different,” Jackson said.
"I couldn't afford stuff like that, yet he's stealing my money and doing it,” Hefner said.
Now, Jackson is selling his tractor to make ends meet.
Investigators also questioned Huffman about blog postings and possible bank accounts and transfers to the Bahamas.
Huffman denies those exist.
"He told us a lie then, he'll tell a lie now,” Jackson said.
And, they don't expect back anything close to what they put in.
"That would be all we'd get would be pennies,” said Hefner.
Investigators continue to search for any other belongings and plan to sell what they can three months from now at the highest price they can get.
