The student of a Matthews school accused of plotting a school shooting was in court Tuesday facing charges of conspiracy.

That trial began behind closed doors in juvenile court Tuesday.

The teen in court is facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder after he and another 15-year old were arrested at the end of last year for threatening to shoot students and staff at the Bible Baptist Christian School in Matthews.

They were arrested after a Charlotte-Mecklenburg resource officer at the school received information that the pair planned on shooting others at the school.

At the time police said they were close to buying a gun.

There may not be much information revealed as a result of Tuesday's trial because the judge in the case ruled in the teen's last hearing that the public and the media would not be allowed in court and the case will be tried in juvenile court.

The teen's attorney said that decision protects his client no matter the outcome, especially the decision to keep the trial in juvenile court, because regardless of are any charges in this case the teen's record will be sealed.

Since the trial does not involve a jury the district attorney said that probably means there will be no opening arguments in the case and instead the lawyers will go straight to presenting evidence.

6NEWS reporter Janelle Martinez is covering this case and she will have a live report on 6NEWS beginning at 4:30 p.m.
