Hotel in SouthPark evacuated for carbon monoxide 4:31 PM
04:39 PM EST on Wednesday, February 14, 2007
The Charlotte Marriott SouthPark Hotel was temporarily evacuated for about 90 minutes Wednesday afternoon when high carbon monoxide levels were discovered in parts of the building.
A contractor doing construction work in the basement was using a gas-powered saw that caused the high carbon monoxide levels, said Charlotte Fire Department Capt. Rob Brisley.
No employees or guests were injured, and the construction worker was checked by medics for non-life threatening exposure to the gas, Brisley said. Guests have since returned to the building, he said.
