A shootout Friday morning has left an innocent bystander fighting for his life after a bullet when through his home striking the victim in the stomach.

The shooting happened just before 1 a.m. Friday on Horne Drive in the Double Oaks community.

According to police, two people were shooting at each other and stray bullets hit five nearby apartments. One of the bullets went through a bedroom wall striking Curtis Washington who was sleeping in his bed with his 10-month-old son.

Washington was transported to Carolinas Medical Center in crtical condition.

A second victim was also shot. Paul Vann, 18, was hospitalized with a minor gunshot wound.

The cars the suspects were riding in crashed and three or four suspects fled from each truck. Police are looking for the men.

Neighbors who live next to Washington said they are still shaken by the incident. They heard a lot of gunfire and one woman said she looked out the window and saw the suspects driving off.

The woman then went to check on her kids to make sure they were OK. She said that’s when she heard Washington's girlfriend screaming.
