Red Ventures holds job fair

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Over the last few weeks, we've been following one woman who's trying to land a job.

On Thursday, she got an interview with a company she's had her eye on for a while, but she's competing with hundreds of others.

The company pre-screened thousands of applicants before inviting 600 to attend Thursday's job fair where only 30 positions are up for grabs.

Theresa Romano said she had her eye on Red Ventures even before she was laid off last November.

"I had already been investigating the company," she said.

She had heard people at the online marketing company actually look forward to going into work every day.

"A lot of people told me it's a great company to work for," she said.

So she was excited when, after months of trying to get a foot in the door, she was invited to attend the company's job fair.

"There's a lot of competition," Romano said. "Showing up today and seeing how many people were here, it was actually exciting to me that there's going to be that many people to compete against."

In groups, applicants met the company's cofounder, toured the facility, and had a one-on-one interview.

"It went really well," Romano said.

The company's senior recruiter, Susan Shanklin, says with such a big talent pool you have to set yourself apart.

"It's the whole package. Prepare ahead of time," Shanklin said.

And once in the building, always be ready.

"And come with your five-minute elevator pitch," she said. "Know exactly what you should say to any person you meet. You never know who they know."

Red Ventures' interviews on Thursday were just the beginning. There are 12 more rounds of interviews for the 30 people who will end up landing jobs there.

Romano was told she should hear something by next week if she makes it to the next round.
