CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A house in the Ballantyne area in south Charlotte went up in flames on Tuesday night.

AirStar over the scene at 10931 Arvind Oaks Court showed fire shooting from the house's roof.

Firefighters said the blaze caused significant damage to the house but it was not destroyed.

A man, his son and daughter were home when the fire started and were able to get out safely. No one was injured.

Firefighters said it appears the fire started in the garage and spread to the house.

The Red Cross is assisting the family.
