GASTONIA, N.C. -- An elderly woman’s family says they is trying to get a Gastonia assisted living center shut down, even though state officials say the chances of that are small.
It comes after police say Rosewood Assisted Living patient Paul Christopher Reeves attempted to rape an 89 year-old woman who also lived at Rosewood, until family members removed her a few days ago.
Police say Rosewood staff members are the ones who saw it, stopped it and called police.

Police also say Reeves was laying on top of an 89-year-old bedridden woman when staffers stopped him.
"I hope this place is shut down,” said niece Darlene Childers.
She and another niece, Cindy Lucas, say if they had it their way, it would be the sooner the better.
They say their aunt fought back and caused the scratches seen on Reeves' jail mug shot.

"He picks my aunt, 89 years old, bedridden in diapers. I hope he gets everything coming to him,” Childers said.
The state is investigating the alleged rape. The results and possible course of correction or fine won't be known for about a week.
"Make sure that 54-year-old men don’t have access to bedridden 89-year-old women,” Childers said about changes she wants to see.
Lucas said that before the alleged assault, some Rosewood residents told her she should get her aunt out of the facility.
She says frequent visits left her unimpressed with her aunt's care.
"She would be completely soiled from her clothes to her socks. I would pull her socks off and her feet would be dried poop,” Lucas said.
Gastonia police say they've had 273 calls for service here over the last two years, and 39 of those were crimes.
We asked to talk to Rosewood administrators, but they haven't responded.
The state says care facilities are rarely shut down. In general, it would take repeated serious violations, failure to fix them and patient safety being at risk.
The state also says Rosewood Assisted Living has made changes after every incident on record, including previous concerns aired on WCNC.
