Gaston County, N.C. – A 17-year-old boy had to be flown to Carolinas Medical Center after falling off a dam in Gaston County Sunday night.

Gaston County EMS says the 17-year-old was with his brother at Hardin Dam in the High Shoals area when he fell about 15 feet and hit his head on some rocks. His brother tried to pick him up but hurt his own back in the process. A little girl reportedly found the boys then ran to tell some firefighters training nearby.

Crews say it was tough rescuing the teen because of all the rocks around the dam. His brother refused treatment by medic.
