First weekend for teen curfew at Northlake Mall
11:21 AM EDT on Saturday, June 13, 2009
It's the first weekend for big changes at Northlake Mall in north Charlotte with teenagers now on a curfew. The new rules went into effect Friday. If you're under 18-years-old, you can't be at the mall past 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays without an adult. A few teens actually got kicked out while our cameras were there. One couple in their 20's tells us, that they were asked to show their i-d's a lot. "There's all kinds of cops and security, and every three seconds your i-d's getting checked everywhere you go," says shopper Andrew Ross. He adds, "you would think they'd be able to stamp your hand or something."
Mall officials say they put the new rules in place because they've noticed a lot of teens hanging out unsupervised, and their big concern is to ensure the safety of shoppers.
