Manhunt continues

CONCORD, N.C. -- Concord police are still searching for a man who murdered two people inside the Sun-drop Bottling Company on Friday.

Police say they have a possible suspect but no one has been arrested or charged.

The scene on Friday stunned residents.

"The Sun Drop Company? Come on,” said neighbor Marvalene Walls. "It's just a bottling company."

Police said the shootings happened during a robbery, but people who had been inside the plant say they rarely if ever saw cash.

"It appears at this time the possible motive may have been robbery,” said Concord Deputy Police Chief Guy Smith.

The victims were identified as 59-year-old Donna Barnhardt and 44-year-old Darrell Noles.

"She was just a good girl,” said Don Harrison, a friend of Barnhardt, who had worked at Sun-drop for 18 years.

Harrison said Barnhardt always poked good-natured fun at him when he asked Sun-drop to sponsor events.

"She'd say, 'Who are you? I don't know what you are talking about,'” Barnhardt said. "When you know somebody it hits closer to home."

The other victim, Noles, appeared to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. He was at Sun-drop on Friday morning to fill out a job application.

His neighbor said Noles was married with children and had grandchildren. He had been out of work for about six months.

"I just hate it,” Harrison said.

Police say the man who apparently shot both ran off with what appeared to be a box in his hand.

"We do have a possible suspect that left the building or the building area,” Smith said. "He's possibly a black male in his early 20s with dreadlocks."

Smith did not say whether the suspect got away with cash. Police say he ran toward town.

"I just know I'm going to be on the lookout, keep my doors locked and try to keep my family safe,” Walls said.

"I'm probably going to put the dog out and lock the door and make sure I have all six chambers loaded tonight if you know what I mean,” Harrison said.

Other people were in the plant at the time, but didn't hear the shooting. They found the two dead in the office and called 911.
