CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Funding Charlotte’s light rail project will be at the center of a City Council meeting Wednesday evening.

Right now, there is a half-cent sales tax to help pay for light rail.

Wednesday night, the Charlotte City Council will be briefed on alternate ways to finance the project if the tax is repealed.

The repeal is currently on the November ballot, because many people are upset over how much more the project has cost compared to original estimates.

Some other financing options which will likely be brought up at Wednesday’s meeting include: increasing property taxes, having outlying towns pick up the tab and cutting back on construction projects and police and fire services.

Wednesday the Council will hold a special meeting at the Cornelius town hall beginning at 4:30 p.m.
