Charlotte, N.C. -- The terror threats abroad have forced a slight change in security at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.

Airport security stepped up patrols beginning Friday night.

Saturday afternoon, two or three TSA officers were seen walking through the airport. Other officers were accompanied by bomb-sniffing dogs which were checking luggage.

If you plan to go to the airport, airport officials say you won't notice any major changes. Procedures at security checkpoints will remain the same.  However, at drop-off and pick-up points at the curbs, security officers will be extra strict.  You'll need to make sure you don't stop your car for too long.

Stepped-up security was more obvious overseas.

Alexa Holloway arrived in Charlotte Saturday afternoon from Frankfurt, Germany.

"When we got there it took a really long time with the passports and customs and they seemed to really take a long time checking the passports.  And then on the way back, it was a lot worse, with all the passport stuff again and the questions we had to answer and the sheets we had to fill out took a lot longer."

Airport officers have and will be in close contact with local law enforcement in case any major security changes are needed.
