04:50 PM EDT on Friday, July 4, 2008
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama plans to visit Charlotte on Monday.
Obama's campaign says the Illinois senator will visit a middle school to discuss his plans to help families who have been hurt by the economic slowdown.
The campaign says the trip is part of a weeklong effort by Obama to campaign in states President Bush won in 2000 and 2004. Other stops include Georgia, Virginia and Ohio.
Bush won 56 percent of the vote in North Carolina in both 2000 and 2004.
