Thunderstorms cause widespread damage 6:43 AM

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Fire Department responded to more than 100 weather-related calls Tuesday night as thunderstorms moved through the area.
CFD said no injuries were reported.
Trees fell on at least eight homes in the Charlotte area.
On Queen Anne Road, a tree fell onto a house where no one was at home. James Canup saw it happen.

"The lightning already came and sparks were flying and thunder, and the next thing I know there is a tree on top of the house," he said.
Just around the corner on Firstcrest Drive, a man and his roommate were at home when a tree hit their house. The damage was so bad they have to leave.
"Probably in the span of 20-30 seconds all the trees started falling and smashed the car, truck. My car didn't get hit but the tree is all over it," the man said. "It punctured a hole in the bedroom. The whole bathroom is destroyed."
CFD also reported that four houses were struck by lightning.
On Morton Street, lightning struck a house, causing a fire. The family got out safely but the home was significantly damaged.
The stormed knocked out power to more than 10,000 people in Mecklenburg County.
Storm damage was also reported in Lincoln and Gaston counties. In Lincoln County, over 1,300 power outages were reported.
