CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A 17-year-old died Wednesday night after being struck by a pickup truck in Charlotte's Hickory Grove neighborhood.
Family members say Robbie Tucker was walking to a friend's house at about 9:20 p.m. Wednesday when he was hit and killed on Plott Road.
Neighbors say there are often lots of kids walking or playing near the road, and cars usually speed through the area.
The victim's sister told WCNC that her family has tried to slow speeding cars before. Now, Tucker's mother is beside herself after the fatal accident.

"He was just an outstanding kid and I just can't believe that he's gone now," said Veronica Monzote Moss, Tucker's mother. "That's my baby. How do you prevent from something, from this happening? I just don't know. One minute they're here and the next minute they're gone. I'm going to miss him. I don't know how I'm going to deal with this."
Police have not said if speed was a factor or if the driver of the pickup truck, 24-year-old Eric Givens, will be charged. Givens stopped at the scene.
Tucker was a sophomore at Independence High School.
