CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A 17-year-old boy is in the hospital after being shot in the back while walking along the street just north of Uptown.

Police say it happened around 3 a.m. in the 1700 block of Sumter Avenue, not far from Johnson C. Smith University.

The victim reported being shot once in the back and he did not know why. He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center to be treated for non life-threatening injuries.
