1 killed when SUV crashes down embankment
03:47 PM EDT on Monday, September 8, 2008
MORGANTON, N.C. -- One man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 40 in Burke County early Sunday morning, but the wreckage was not discovered until Monday.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol says a Chevrolet SUV ran off the right side of the road, over corrected, struck a guardrail and flipped over it, ending up at the bottom of a 70-feet embankment.
The driver, 28-year-old Brandon Keith Lane, was pronounced dead at the scene.
State troopers say when Lane didn't come home, family members went to look for him and discovered the wreckage.
The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Troopers said it does not appear that speed was a factor.
