CONCORD, N.C. -- A Concord man accused of killing two people after a four-hour standoff is scheduled to face a Superior Court judge Monday.
Investigators say 31-year-old Christopher Willard was trying to visit his ex-girlfriend in a neighborhood on Highland Avenue around noon Friday. Police say he fired multiple shots, which hit Willard's ex-girlfriend and a 57-year-old woman.
One of the victims died at the scene, and the other was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast where she later died.
Police said the case stemmed from a domestic dispute but would not comment on a motive. A friend of Willard's ex-girlfriend said the couple had been together for 12 years and had broken up a few months ago.
A grandson of the other victim said she was sitting under a tree when Willard allegedly shot her. Relatives said she was defenseless at the time; she apparently suffered a stroke last year and had a hard time moving around.
