HAZMAT responded to the North Carolina Air National Guard base near Charlotte-Douglas International Airport

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A suspicious package delivered to the North Carolina Air National Guard base near Charlotte-Douglas International Airport on Wednesday morning turned out to be a false alarm.

Lt. Col. Rose Dunlap of the Air National Guard said the package was delivered through the U.S. Postal Service. It had no return address and, according to Dunlap, indicators showed it to be suspicious in nature.

The Charlotte Fire Department sent in a hazardous materials team to investigate. Dunlap said radiation and other tests were negative.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Bomb Squad performed X-ray tests on the package and deemed it safe.
