Charlotte hosts 'DTV Transition Day' workshop for residents
12:16 PM EDT on Thursday, October 16, 2008
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Residents in Mecklenburg County can learn more about the upcoming digital television transition on Thursday at a special "DTV Day" event in Charlotte.
Although the transition to digital television is more than five months away, residents are being encouraged to prepare now before the switch on Feb. 17, 2009.
A public workshop on the digital transition is being held on Thursday at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Local broadcasters, cable operators and members of the Federal Communications Commission will be on hand all day to give free demonstrations and share important information.
From 6-8 p.m., FCC Chairman Kevin Martin will hold a community forum to address questions and concerns related to the DTV transition.
If you have questions about the DTV transition, visit http://www.wcnc.com/dtv. Mecklenburg County residents can also visit www.charmeck.org to learn how to dispose of old televisions.
NewsChannel 36 DTV Test
On Friday, NewsChannel 36 will turn off its analog signal and switch to digital during our 6 p.m. newscast so that viewers can see if their TVs are digital-ready.
If you see static or "snow" during the 36 seconds, you may need to purchase a converter in order to see the digital signal.
If you do not notice a change during the 36-second test, your TV is ready for the transition.
