FDA questioning mouse-shaped hotdog bun
09:21 PM EST on Friday, November 7, 2008
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The FDA is now investigating a Florida bakery that produced a hotdog bun that appeared to have a mouse baked into it.
Charlotte resident Bruce Van Dyne bought the Arnold's Bakery buns at BJ's wholesale.
The bakery tested the bun and said the mouse-shaped form was "pan accumulation" or dough. Arnold's said their lab results show no sign of hairs, stains or rodent contamination.
But the FDA isn't so sure. Van Dyne said officials with the FDA have knocked on his door twice this week. He says they're trying to figure out exactly what was in his hotdog bun and plan to inspect the Florida bakery where it was made.

Meanwhile, BJ's is no longer stocking Arnold's products.
Van Dyne said in an apparent effort to try to make things right, Arnold's has given him a $500 BJ's gift card and made a $2,000 donation to a charity in his name.
