CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- As the economy worsens more people are riding the light rail. So much in fact that some lots are extremely overcrowded.

The last thing drivers want to do when coming to a light rail station is look for a parking space. CATS agrees and says it's working on solutions.

There are now 54 additional parking spaces available for motorists at the CATS Interstate 485 station. Signs will point to where the extra spots are located near the parking deck just south of of the Texas Roadhouse restaurant.

CATS hopes this will alleviate some of the issues until a new lot is striped, which will provide another 85 spots next year.

Once the new lot is complete there will be a total of 1,200 parking spaces at the I-485 station.
