CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Losing a job can be a humbling experience, but if you want to find another one quickly you need to turn that disappointment into action.

Charlotte Career Coach Tom Killen says that's your best defense.

"You can have a downward spiral that happens. The recommendation I would have is to make sure you don't have that downward spiral, go on the offensive and be aggressive," said Killen.  "You are going to eat a little humble pie. You are competing with people you haven't had to compete with before. You are going to have to be that much more aggressive and clear about your plan of action."

There are support groups for people who are out of work or looking to switch careers.

St. John's Episcopal Church runs a Job Hunters Group for people of all faiths. There are no religious requirements to attend. For more information, call 704-341-2255.

St. Matthew Episcopal Church in Ballantyne also has a group called Christians in Career Transition. It meets the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month from 7-9 p.m. If you want more information, call 704-543-7677
