Suspect taken into custody after barricading himself

One man is facing charges after shooting at a woman, then barricading himself in an east Charlotte home.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- CMPD SWAT team members responded to a domestic violence call Sunday morning in east Charlotte after a suspect barricaded himself.

According to CMPD, a shot was fired at a female victim. Officers say when they arrived they were able to secure the victim but the male suspect, who was later identified as 48-year-old Omar Franklin, refused to come outside.

The incident occurred on the 7600 block of Holly Grove.

Officers evacuated nearby residences to ensure safety and continued to try and talk to Franklin for several hours while a SWAT team and negotiators arrived.

After continued communication, Franklin came outside and was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and taken into custody.
