SWAT responds to shots fired in University area

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --  -- According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, University City Division Officers responded to a call at 12:38 p.m. on Gracyn Olivia Drive where a witness heard shots fired. 

Upon arriving at the scene, officers heard shots fired inside of an apartment and requested the assistance of the SWAT Team.

Members of the SWAT Team and negotiators were activated and responded to the scene where they attempted to make contact with the suspect.

CMPD has reported that the suspect has now voluntarily surrendered to the officers and is being transported to an area medical facility for evaluation.
