CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Three women setting up for a church charity event Sunday were confronted by a man who said he had a weapon. But they weren't about to become victims.
Those scary moments happened at the Sharon Seventh Day Adventist Church.
The suspect did not show a weapon and at the time the women didn’t show any fear.
The only sign left Monday that anything had happened was the sandals the suspect left behind, after the three women had run him off.
"I think I hurt my finger swinging at him, but no he didn't injure me," said 63-year-old Patricia Johnson.
She was visiting from Fayetteville Sunday morning and had come to the church yard sale when she heard two women yelling.
Johnson says they were screaming, "’Lock your door, lock your door!’ and he had hit my car. I hit the window by mistake and it went down part of the way."
The suspect stuck his head in through the window and Johnson swung at him, trying to prevent him from getting her purse.
"And the two ladies that were there, one was pregnant, they were getting him from behind," says Johnson.
The other victims were a 46-year-old and a 28-year-old who was 7 months pregnant.
The suspect got away with a purse which one of the victims had just bought from the sale.
It was empty so the robber tossed the purse and ran off.
"My mother wasn’t too happy to hear that I fought back, but I said 'Mother! hey! He was in my car, he had his head and arm in my car!’" says Johnson.
None of the women were injured during the incident. The suspect is still at large.
