Troopers: Suspect clocked at '109 mph' during chase, driver on the run

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- North Carolina State Highway Patrol is working to locate the driver who is suspected of evading officers in a high-speed chase that began in in north Charlotte Wednesday afternoon.

The chase began on I-77 South near Sunset Road, troopers say. According to state troopers, the driver was clocked at going 109 miles-per-hour in a 55-mph zone. The driver got off on Exit 13 toward Statesville Avenue and kept driving toward Brookshire Boulevard, which was where Troopers say they lost sight of the vehicle.

A short time later, the troopers found the car abandoned on June Furr Road and Hudson Graham Lane.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police is assisting to see if the vehicle was stolen.
