Speed, alcohol cited factors in fatal crash

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Police cite speed and alcohol in a fatal motorcycle crash Wednesday evening in the University City area.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to the 6900 block of Highland Creek Parkway Wednesday evening to find a motorcyclist deceased on the scene.

Witnesses told officers the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway. The bike struck a tree and slid down an embankment.

At this time, police say they believe both alcohol and speed are factors in the crash.

Police identified the driver as 41-year-old Jamie Allen Szot.
