Veteran gets dream house

A veteran of the US marines is a home tonight, in a brand new house donated to him for his service overseas.

FORT MILL, S.C. -- Back in April NBC Charlotte brought you the story of U.S. veteran Khris DeCapua, as he and members of Lennar Charlotte broke ground on a home they were building for Khris and his family in Fort Mill.

Five months later, the job is done.

"Now it's September and there's a house there," DeCapua said. "Wow."

DeCapua has been through a lot. He has PTSD and traumatic brain injuries from an explosion near his platoon when he was serving in Afghanistan. Days like today, are appreciated that much more.

"I see my wife's face and see her starting to tear up," DeCapua said. "And I know it's okay for me to tear up."

The keys to the house were parachuted in. Once they were in hand, DeCapua was ready to come inside.

"We know you signed the papers and have the keys, but please don't go in the house until after the key ceremony," DeCapua said.  "And I said yeah, I won't go in the house.  But being inside now and seeing, I'm just in awe."

A house of his own, that'll now become his home.
