CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Law enforcement is investigating after a weapon was found in a local elementary school bathroom.
"Keeping families aware of incidents that happen on campus is important," Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Media Relations Specialist Vicki Grooms wrote in an email that went to parents Wednesday.
According to CMS, safety protocols were implemented after a weapon was found in on of the hallway restrooms at Palisades Park Elementary School.
Grooms encouraged parents to check their children's backpacks daily to ensure that appropriate items are being brought to school.
The news comes just a day after police in Union County say they avoided "potential catastrophe" by discovering a student, under the age of 16, armed with knives, a bottle of flammable liquid, fireworks, a dismantled shotgun shell and a hit list.
